Publication Day

Today is official publication day of The Wacky Man and what a day it’s been. I’ve been to an interview at BBC Radio Leeds and enjoyed every minute. I’ve had some amazing reviews by brilliant book bloggers and Twitter has been a-buzz with tweets and retweets about my debut novel. I feel exhilarated and extremely lucky to have experienced a day like today.

Without the Luke Bitmead Bursary Award none of this would have happened and I’m delighted that my publication day coincides with the launch of the opening of the 2016 Award competition. I feel a deep connection to Luke, our journeys have been very similar in so many ways. I also think that what he’s left behind him is a wonderful legacy, a change to allow writers to emerge from the shadows into the light of publication. I am determined to make the most of the wonderful chance given to me.

I encourage everyone to take part. Legend Press and the Luke Bitmead Bursary Award took a risk with my novel; it’s raw and brutal in places because it had to be and where agencies shied away from that, they embraced it. So far, readers are reacting to it in the way I’d hoped. So here’s to the 2016 Award winner. I can’t wait to meet them.
